About

Mellor is a village within the Municipal Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester.

The Mellor Society was established in 1971 with the following objectives:

a. The promotion and protection of the environment and the amenities of Mellor
b. The encouragement of the residents of Mellor to participate in safeguarding the local environment and amenities.

The work of the Society is carried out by its Officers and a Committee.

The officers are:

The committee comprises of up to 12 elected members and not more than 6 co-opted members.

Addittionally , any Stockport MBC Councillor living within Mellor is an ex-officio member of the Committee, and all the Ward Councillors are invited to Committee meetings.

Members of the society have to be resident within Mellor or the conservation area of Mill Brow and over 18 years of age. The annual subscription is £1 per member.  Currently, the Society has over 1100 members – some 72% of the adult population.

The Society welcomes ‘Friends’ – people living outside the Society’s boundary who nevertheless wish to keep in touch with events in Mellor.  Friends receive the Newsletter by post, and pay a slightly higher subscription to cover postage.  Although they are welcome at the Society’s AGM, they may not vote.
