The Society publishes three Newletters each year, which are delivered to each household where there is a member, thanks to a devoted corps of some 25 volunteers. These distributors also collect the annual subscriptions. Volunteers are always needed!
Each newsletter gives details of current Society activities, and the last page is devoted to local bus and train timetables.
Twelve Mellor Walks
Update 18/09/2016 – This publication is currently out of print
In 1993, the Society published Twelve Mellor Walks, a booklet describing walks of varying length in and around Mellor. Written by two Committee members, illustrated by a Society member, with historical notes by another Committee member and geological notes by an ex-Committee member, the first print-run of 1000 copies sold out very quickly. A second print of 500 copies also sold out.
Since there was still a demand for the book, the Society decided to up-date the original version, reflecting the changes which had taken place in the past 9 years. The new edition was launched at the Annual General Meeting in March 2002.
To commemorate the Millennium, the Society collected items typifying life in Mellor during the year 2000. Household bills, letterheads from local businesses, sports club fixture lists, newspaper clippings, photographs . . . . all were pasted into a scrapbook which was adorned by an cover embroidered by a Society member. The book is usually on display at the Annual General Meeting in March each year. It is currently in safe keeping, and it may be viewed by applying to the Custodian, Mrs Ann Hearle, at the Old Vicarage, Mellor.
